And will that ship last to see your grandchildren?
Here are 5 things that will increase the odds…
Hey now, well, that was dark. My bad. I’m not trying to scare you here… but maybe I am?
In the US, 42.4% of adults are obese, up 26% since 2008.
Since 1974, cancer rates have increased by 35.4% in people under 40 years of age. And in 2024, 4.2% of new cancer cases are expected to occur among people aged 15-39.
WTF is going on?
Now, I have lots of opinions (and facts) here, but I’ll save that post for later.
These stats are not OK and you should be mad too!
You’d think since the US has a spot on the list of top 10 wealthiest countries, that the same would hold true for being among the healthiest, but that’s far from the case (sitting at number 45!)
Now, I’m not here to vent, I’m here to share how you can take your health into your own hands, to put you in the driver's seat, and to become the CEO of your own health.
The best CEOs have a few traits for you to take on:
1. Optimize the fundamentals.
A few key things to hone in on.
Focus on your sleep, hydration, eat whole foods (and less sugar), remove processed ones, move your body daily, get into the sun around sunrise and sunset, and out of the blue light, invest in air filters, water filters, and put your feet in the grass, dirt, or sand to soak in earth’s electrons (we literally have receptors in our feet for this purpose) — it’s called ‘grounding’ and it reduces inflammation in the body.
Tackle these one by one and you’re well on your way.
2. Make decisions based on data.
Everybody is different, plus there’s lots of noise to sort through in this world of wellness. Get your blood work done, test your stool, your hormones, etc. and find a functional medicine doctor who will look at everything holistically to get you on a plan specific to what YOU need to fix or what YOU should avoid!
Don’t fall for buying the next hottest product because you were influenced on the gram, when there are other priorities.
Yes, there’s cost involved here, but investing in it now will reduce your medical costs later.
3. Be a better listener.
This means listening to your body and how it reacts to what you consume (food & content) and even how you feel after certain exercises! Bonus points for keeping a journal.
4. Question everything and open your mind to different possibilities.
There are conflicting thoughts and beliefs in eastern and western medicine, so start listening to other sides of the coin.
Learn about your food sources, the ingredients (if you can’t pronounce it, you should probably ditch it), the companies you’re supporting, and most importantly, where you’re getting your information and belief systems!
We trust too easily, and frankly, lots of unlearning has to be done in order to relearn.
5. Weigh out the risks.
I’m personally shocked by how many people are currently on or want to be on GLP-1s. This is another big discussion, and while I understand there are risks for obesity that need to be weighed out with those of taking the drug, plus deep psychological elements here at play, when you look up the potential side effects, plus the fact that you’d have to stay on these drugs FOREVER, are they still appealing?
Has there ever been a magic pill? Do you FULLY trust these companies creating the drugs?
On the flip side, how risky is it to alter your routine to integrate more of the fundamentals listed in #1 above?
Bonus: Drink lots of coconuts with your little homies.
Be the change for YOU, for your family, your friend group, and your community, and together we can change the trajectory in the US.
Lastly, I believe in you. And a shoutout to folks like Cally & Casey Means, and Jesse Itzler for their work in standing up to our gov’t and big corporations for their role in this epidemic.
Focker Out.
