Entrepreneurs like me tie so much of their identity into the companies they’re building — for 10 years, I’ve been the Swerve guy! (Swerve is my fitness tech company).
But there’s so much more to me than most know, and it starts with my upbringing.
People ask how I chose the health & wellness industry, but really, the industry chose me.
The same house I was homebirthed and raised in, resided my parents' wholistic wellness center. Literally two doors down from my bedroom was a treatment room where patients received chiropractic adjustments, massages, or acupuncture.
My parents, easily labeled as hippies and jokingly ‘The Fockers’… were actually TRAILBLAZERS!
Growing up, each night before bed we’d practice breath work, meditate, and manifest what we wanted in our lives.
As a toddler, that started as manifesting trips to Toys R Us.
As a high schooler, it was envisioning playing lacrosse at an Ivy League school.
As kids, we joined my parents' tai chi classes to find our zen and learn about how to harness energy from the earth, ate mostly organic foods (and kale before kale was cool), received acupuncture, adjustments, and massages regularly, took vitamins daily, and never any antibiotics or medication, and seldom got sick.
My parents put me into kung-fu at a young age (pictured below, far right), and I credit my athleticism to it — which led to playing D1 lacrosse @ Harvard.
Our ‘wacky’ lifestyle was heavily influenced by eastern medicine and culture, and one of true holistic wellness.
In the 3.7 decades I’ve been alive, from the influence of my parents and my own self-led research, I’ve witnessed the “woo-woo” turn mainstream and the “mystical” get backed by science.
And while learning never stops, it’s what I love.
Now, as a new father, I’m learning more about baby/developmental health and how to appropriately pass my knowledge on to my daughter, which feels like the ultimate responsibility — showing the next generation how to be their healthiest and most vivacious selves.
So when you see me post about what may seem to be wacky health kicks I’m on, the supplements I’m taking (or giving my daughter), the homemade yogurt we’re culturing, the experiences I’m having with Megan (like delivering babies at home - s/o to our midwives who literally changed our lives), sharing the books or podcasts I’m listening to (most recently, how circadian rhythm extends into the foods you should or should not eat — what’s healthy on one latitude is not healthy at another), or the hot saunas and cold tubs I’m hanging out in, know that this is who I AM!
Allow me to reintroduce myself… my name is Pose! Call me the modern-day Focker, forever athlete, progressive father, writer, knowledge seeker, and of course, entrepreneur!
Focker out.
Forget kale… let’s talk carob 🤮. Remember when mom and dad fed us that trying to pass it off as chocolate! Anyone who knows what I’m talking about can vibe with how deep our health roots really are!!! I Love you and I am very proud of you!
- Sister Focker, aka the person who taught you almost everything aka the person who really got you into Harvard 😝😘
Mucho gusto Eric, Megan & Vida Focker-Pose!
We’re proud of you and family and the path you’re taking.
Peace & Swerve🙏
